It’s especially fun to photograph births where the parents don’t know if they’re having a boy or a girl! Zoey’s birth was no exception. Thanks to you guys for having me there!!

It was such a pleasure to be there with Kat and Aaron as they welcomed Jack into the world! He’s such an adorable little guy!

I think it took all of about 30 seconds for me to realize that Lindsay and I would become friends. She, Bob, and I sat down to chat about birth photography and it was one of those meetings after which I left with a huge smile on my face, called Toby from the car, and went on for at least 10 minutes about how much I love being a birth photographer. Lindsay and Bob are some of the most kind, genuine, informed, intelligent, practical, and in love couples I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. And frankly, there aren’t many new parents out there that meet that entire description.

Lindsay went into labor the day before Mother’s Day and when she was about 6cm, I made my way to the hospital. I arrived at about 6pm and Lindsay was just walking down the hall to her room. At that point, her contractions were about 3 minutes apart and she was handling every one beautifully. Labor progressed and then came 9cm. Lindsay patiently labored as she stayed stuck at 9cm for hours… Robbie’s heart rate started dropping a bit which meant IV fluids and being on the monitor constantly – neither of which helped with Lindsay’s ability to move around while she labored. After 3+ hours of being stuck at 9cm and 12+ hours of laboring overall, Lindsay opted for an epidural so that she could get some sleep. Thank goodness she had the chance to rest!! Robbie ended up needing to be delivered via C-Section on Sunday morning. Through it all, Lindsay was so calm, collected, inspiring, and peaceful. Her positive attitude and realistic approach to her birth plan was a joy to watch. She’ll definitely be a key role model for me if Toby and I ever have more kids!!
